Why Therapeutic Yoga?

~ Build strength, flexibilty & balance ~

Therapeutic yoga is a naturally holistic approach, simultaneously working on the body, mind, and spirit.

Various yoga practices systematically strengthen different systems in the body, including the heart and cardiovascular system, the lungs, muscles and the nervous system.

Yoga practices can improve function of the digestive system, promote psychological wellbeing and improve oxygen delivery to the tissues. It can also help the body more efficiently remove waste products, carcinogens and cellular toxins.

Choosing to attend a therapeutic yoga class is about making a conscious decision to address certain problems in your physical, mental or emotional state.

Therapeutic yoga has become an established practice to maintain wellness and alleviate a range of health problems and ailments

It is particularly effective as a complement to other forms of health care, both alternative and conventional in the treatment of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic pain, migraines, stress, anxiety and depression.

The benefits of therapeutic yoga are greater than those of a regular fitness style yoga class because it offers intimate group or one-on-one sessions designed to target the specific problems you want to resolve.

Taught by a Yoga Instructor with a specialisation in Therapy Yoga, the instructor can focus more on you and what you need and as a result the sequences are designed with your unique needs in mind.

Yang to Yin Yoga

Yang to Yin Yoga

~ Energise; then rest,
relax & restore ~

Yin yoga is based on the Taoist principles of Yin and Yang, where Yin is more calming, passive and cooling, and Yang is more active, excited and heating. The physical effects of the Yin practice result in lubricated and lengthened connective tissue, whereas the Yang practice focuses more on strengthening and stretching the muscles.

"YIN-yasa" is a combination of vinyasa flow (yang) and yin yoga. The first part of the class utilizes the heat of vinyasa flow, followed with the cooling stillness of yin postures to achieve balance.  We will flow through a sequence of slower-paced sun salutations and standing postures geared towards those new to yoga or preferring a gentler practice.  This will be followed with the passive long holds of yin yoga encouraging the release of the joints, connective tissues and fascia. Yin poses are floor based and supported with as many props as required to create minimal effort while holding the pose for 2-5 min.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Yin yoga is also a wonderful practice for both quieting the active mind and encouraging the energy (Qi) to consistently flow through the six main meridians in the legs, which are connected to the health of these major organs ~ the spleen/pancreas, liver, kidney, urinary bladder, stomach, and gall bladder.

This practice is beneficial to those seeking pain treatment and trauma recovery, and to athletes or others who wish to increase their range of motion or the flow of energy within their bodies. Yin Yoga is the perfect complement to the more active, yang lifestyles we lead.

The many health benefits of Yang to Yin yoga include:

  • Creates more space within the facial networks

  • Increased sense of calm & spaciousness

  • Greater joint and tissue flexibility

  • Increased range of motion in the joints

  • Decreased levels of stress and anxiety

  • An opportunity to slow down

  • Revitalizes the tissues of the body

  • Regulated energy levels (Qi)

  • Influences the bodies meridians

  • Improved practice of meditation

  • Enhanced practice of yang yoga
